I wanted to save this challenge for nicer weather, and the time has arrived.
It’s beautiful out there! Get outside and enjoy fall while you can. Take a walk on one of the trails, like Memorial in Houston or Rose Rudman in east Texas. Trail Link is a site that will show you all the trails around you by plugging in a city or zip. I was very impressed with the accuracy of the site. I did a test run and entered the tiny town where I grew up in Iowa (calling it a town is being generous – the current population is 25) and the results it generated were exactly what I was expecting. Give it a try, wherever you are this week, and go exploring.
But, this is not the challenge to connect with nature; it’s the challenge to connect with people. So grab a person – a friend, family member or acquaintance you’d like to know better and take a walk together.
The added benefit is that if you walk long enough, you can earn that cocktail you were going to have anyway.
If walking isn’t your thing, choose another outdoor activity. My sister and I used to get up on Saturdays and go to the park to play tennis. I say that like we did it every week. Most weeks I slept til noon. Some weeks she could convince me to get out of bed early enough to join her for tennis. We even found a new* farmers’ market afterwards one week
*They weren’t actually new, I was informed, they’re there every week – that was just the first week I was up early enough to see them.
I’m more of a morning person these days, and this weekend I’ll be in Iowa in time for prime leaf viewing. I’m going on Trail Link right now to find the perfect place for a walk on Saturday morning with my sister!
