I searched the cobweby corners of my mind to remember last time I went to the movie theater, and I came up with one time in the entire year. I saw How to Train Your Dragon 2 with my nephew. It was a great movie, but I missed a lot of good ones that I had to watch at home, where the popcorn just isn’t as good. On the upside, I’ve saved a lot of money.
Yesterday I made it to my second for the year – Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1. It was good, but you really have to go into the Part 1 installment expecting it to be a set up for the final movie. There is action, but there’s not too much happening plot-wise. The advantage of reading the books ahead of time is that I already know how it ends and don’t have to wait on the edge of my seat for another whole year.
I peered into my crystal ball (google) and looked at what’s coming out the rest of this year and I made a list of movies that I would be willing to pay $10 to see:
1. The Theory of Everything (out now)
This looks like such a beautiful story of Stephen Hawking’s life, mind and work.
2. Wild (December 5)
The first time I saw the trailer for this movie, I was so drawn in that I downloaded the book and immediately started reading it. I can’t wait to see it come to life on the screen.
3. Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (December 17)
I read this book in elementary school and it was one of my favorites. I loved the fantasy element of it, and it probably bred my love of the genre. I’ve been waiting to watch the first two movies until this came out, so I could do one mega marathon. This comes out in two weeks, so time to start watching!
4. Unbroken (December 25)
I cannot recommend highly enough that you read this book. It is one of the best I’ve read in a long time. It’s a true story about a truly incredible human being, and makes you feel like there is no trial you can’t overcome.
5. Into the Woods (December 25)
I’ve been waiting almost 20 years, since the first time I saw this on stage, for it to become a movie. I am on cloud nine that it’s finally happened. If you like fairy tales, this should be your must-see movie of the year:
Did I miss any? Which upcoming movie are you most excited to see?
