My friend came into my office a few weeks ago and asked if I like to ski, because she would really love to do a girls’ trip before her wedding. By 5 pm that day we had plane tickets to Park City, Utah.
A little more spontaneous than I’m used to but, I’m going skiing!
Now I need to bring my ultra planner self back into this to decide the really important part…what I’m going to wear! My friends came to my rescue by loaning me ski gear to wear on the mountain, so I didn’t have to buy any of that. It’s a relief, because I googled “best ski coats of 2014” and the cheapest one was $500. When we went skiing as kids we just wore our farm coveralls and work gloves – in no universe does a $500 coat (that is just for skiing) make sense to me.
I have also been googling Park City over the last week, because Hollywood just converged on the little mountain town for the Sundance Film Festival. I wanted to see what the celebrities were wearing, and I was excited to see that most of their looks are dressed down and more casual – they look like things I would wear. These were some of my favorite looks that inspired the outfits I chose below.
Don’t they all look so warm?? (from top: Brooklyn Decker, Kate Hudson, Margot Robbie)
I put together three looks to give you guys an idea of what’s going in my suitcase. Check them out and let me know what you think!
1. Throw in some cozy jeggings, and my first outfit will be great for walking around town during the day:
2. This is my favorite night-time outfit! I ordered that coat yesterday from H&M and all of their winter stuff is on sale right now. I’ll report back about the quality when it arrives, but I’ve read good things about their faux fur.
3. This look is all about the layering, and most of my outfits will follow this general formula – shirt, sweater, scarf, and coat. Layers are great because you can you can eliminate pieces on a warmer day, and you can mix and match, which saves room in a suitcase. For instance, that denim shirt would look great with the black leggings, tall boots and plaid scarf from the previous pictures.
Now you tell me – what did you love or hate about my choices? Do you have any suggestions for what I should pack?
