My company Christmas party is just around the corner and the theme this year is a masquerade ball. I love that people go all out to dress for the themes. Last year it was the roaring twenties, and we all spent weeks perfecting our outfits. Here is a peek at how it turned out:
A lot of the girls will use a service called Rent the Runway, where you rent a designer gown for the night at a fraction of what it costs to buy it. It’s a genius idea, and I decided to check it out this year. I was so overwhelmed by the options available, that I decided I would need a little help with the decision.
I put together a few outfit boards and I need you to tell me which one is your favorite!
First up, Black Swan.
I loved the idea of feathers and tulle, and thought this look could be really sophisticated and different from what anyone else will have. I want to do a tea length tulle skirt with something similar to the feather corset.
My next inspiration was a no-brainer: Phantom of the Opera. After all, there is an entire musical number called “Masquerade”
I went with red on this one, and tied back to the roses you see throughout Phantom.
The dress has rosettes on the sleeves, and for outerwear it has to be a cape.
I just watched the Kiera Knightly version of Anna Karenina and I fell in love with the costumes so that is our third look. Set in Russia, the clothes are over the top beautiful gowns, accented by snow, fur and heartache.
This design is pretty similar to Black Swan, but I love the full length black skirt. It feels more like a ball gown, and there are not many opportunities in one’s life to wear a ball gown, and with fur no less. Since Anna is always wearing a veil over her face, I would go with a mask that mirrors that.
Okay – now it’s your turn! Tell me which one is your favorite! Is there a different movie that I should do a board for? Let me know that too!
